Multi-Turn Conversation Practice

45 minutesBest for: People already experimenting with AI who want to improve their prompting skills

What You'll Do

Practice having an extended conversation with AI to accomplish a complex task. You'll learn how to guide the conversation, provide feedback, and iterate on AI's responses.

1Choose an AI tool

2Select a complex, real-world task

Choose a task that requires multiple back-and-forth exchanges. Examples: - Drafting a business plan outline for a new venture - Creating a content calendar for your business's social media - Developing a lesson plan or workshop outline - Writing a speech or presentation - Planning a complex project with multiple stakeholders - Creating a survey or questionnaire for your community

3Start with a detailed initial prompt

See example prompts below

For Business Planning

Prompt - Copy and paste this:
I'm thinking about starting a [type of business] in [location]. My target customers are [describe]. My budget is limited, and I want to start small. Can you help me create an outline for a simple business plan? Let's start by brainstorming the key sections I should include.

For Content Creation

Prompt - Copy and paste this:
I need to create a 30-day social media content calendar for my [type of business/organization]. Our audience is [describe]. We want to post 3 times per week. Can you help me brainstorm themes and specific post ideas? Let's start with the first week.

For Event Planning

Prompt - Copy and paste this:
I'm planning a [type of event] for approximately [number] people. The goal is to [purpose]. The budget is [amount]. Can you help me create a detailed planning checklist? Let's start by identifying the major categories of tasks I need to handle.

Practice These Conversation Skills

  • Give Feedback: "I like ideas 1, 3, and 5, but #2 and #4 won't work because [reason]. Can you replace those?"
  • Add Context: "Keep in mind that I'm in a rural area with limited access to [resource]."
  • Request Specific Formats: "Can you put this in a table format?"
  • Iterate and Refine: "Can you expand on [specific point]?"
  • Test AI's Memory: Refer back to earlier parts of the conversation

Challenge Goals

  • Have at least 8-10 back-and-forth exchanges
  • Successfully guide the AI to produce something you'd actually use
  • Practice giving feedback and iterating
  • End with a concrete deliverable (outline, plan, calendar, checklist, draft, etc.)

Reflection Questions

How did the quality of responses change as you provided more context and feedback?
What types of prompts or questions got you the best results?
Did the AI lose track of context at any point? How did you handle that?
What would you do differently next time to get better results faster?

General Tips

Getting Unstuck:

  • If AI gives you an unhelpful response, try rephrasing your question
  • Add more details or context
  • Ask it to try again with specific changes

Technical Issues:

  • If the AI tool isn't loading, try refreshing the page or switching to a different tool
  • Make sure you're connected to wifi
  • Ask Connor for help!

Remember:

  • There's no "wrong" way to do this
  • Experimentation is encouraged
  • You can switch tasks if you want to try something different
  • AI makes mistakes - use your judgment

What to Bring Next Week (Optional)

  • If you had an interesting conversation, be ready to share what you learned
  • Bring questions about AI that came up while you were experimenting
  • If something didn't work well, we can troubleshoot together
